Insurance providers require submitting a specific mental health diagnosis for authorization and disbursement of benefits, and sometimes only certain diagnoses are covered. To avoid concerns of insurance coverage affecting the diagnosis and treatment, as well as the diagnosis becoming part of your permanent record, many people prefer private pay.

While every concern requires some diagnosis and treatment, the reality is that not every mental health concern requires a formal diagnosis that fits into the insurance parameters. Your therapist will take into consideration mental. medical, and behavioral aspects over several sessions and will consult with all professionals involved in your care to produce a careful and thoughtful diagnosis.

Some people feel that the insurance processes may dictate the care they can and cannot receive. Providers must be included in their list, only diagnosable conditions might be covered, the length of care is determined, and often only a limited number of sessions are authorized. In addition, reimbursement of services may change for various reasons.

If you wish to seek reimbursement from your insurance carrier, I can provide a detailed invoice outlining the services provided to you, which will include a formal diagnosis.
